Armed Baker County Bank Robber Sentenced to More Than 34 Years in Federal Prison

U.S. Attorney’s Office August 06, 2009
  • Middle District of Florida (904) 301-6300

JACKSONVILLE, FL—U.S. Attorney A. Brian Albritton announces that U.S. District Judge Henry Lee Adams, Jr. today sentenced Jabari Markeith Hird (age 29, of Orlando) to 34 years and two months in federal prison for conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm. The court also ordered Hird to pay $147,000 in restitution to the Country Federal Credit Union in Baker County. Hird had pleaded guilty on March 23, 2009.

According to court documents, the morning of April 12, 2005, Hird and Rasheed Silvera (age 31, of Orlando) robbed the Country Federal Credit Union in Glen St. Mary. Before entering the credit union, they tied shirts over their faces. They then ran inside, with Hird waiving and pointing a firearm. Hird and Silvera told the tellers that they should do exactly what was asked of them if they ever wanted to see their children again. One of the tellers ran to the back door, and Hird chased her, grabbed her, and dragged her back, demanding that she open the vault. Another teller eventually opened the vault, and Hird and Silvera stole $147,000. Hird and

Silvera were brought to justice in part because of forensic DNA analysis that FBI's Quantico Lab performed on the clothing the robbers discarded after their robbery.

Silvera was sentenced previously to 92 months in federal prison for armed robbery.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Baker County Sheriff's Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys A. Tysen Duva and Jay Taylor.
