U.S. Attorney’s Office March 07, 2012
  • Southern District of Mississippi (601) 965-4480

JACKSON, MS—Norman Cobbins, 61, of Lexington, Mississippi, a Holmes County Supervisor, was indicted by a federal grand jury today for mail fraud, bribery, and making a false statement, U.S. Attorney John Dowdy, FBI Special Agent in Charge Daniel McMullen, and Mississippi State Auditor Stacey Pickering announced.

The indictment alleges that from January 2002 through January 2011, Cobbins carried out a scheme to defraud Holmes County by submitting false invoices and requisitions to the county and converting the money to his own personal use.

If convicted, Cobbins faces a maximum penalty of 35 years in prison and a $750,000 fine.

The public is reminded that, as in any criminal case, a person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The charges filed merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.
