SOUTH BEND, IN—The United States Attorney’s Office announced the following activity in federal court:
Javon Thomas, 20, of South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced by District Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 120 months’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of carrying a firearm which discharged during a drug trafficking crime and crime of violence. According to documents filed by the government in this case, Thomas was one of four armed men who broke into the home of a known drug dealer and the drug dealer’s girlfriend and four children. One of the men (not Mr. Thomas) shot the drug dealer. The four men stole drugs and money, split the money, and distributed the marijuana. This case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and the South Bend Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald Schmid.
