Gary Police Officer Arrested

U.S. Attorney’s Office August 14, 2012
  • Northern District of Indiana (219) 937-5500

HAMMOND, IN—United States Attorney David Capp announced that a Gary Police officer was arrested today after being charged with drug trafficking and a firearm violation.

David Finley, Jr., 31, of Merrillville, Indiana, was charged in a criminal complaint with distribution of cocaine and making a straw purchase of a firearm.

Finley had his initial appearance this afternoon before Magistrate Judge Andrew Rodovich and was remanded into custody. Finley’s probable cause and detention hearing has been set for Friday, August 17 at 2:15 p.m. before Magistrate Judge Rodovich.

These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation GRIT Task Force and the Gary Police Department. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gary Bell.

The United States Attorney’s Office emphasized that a complaint is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

If convicted in court, any specific sentence to be imposed will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
