Activity in Federal Court – South Bend

SOUTH BEND, IN—The United States Attorney’s Office announced: Charles R. Reid, 30, of Elkhart, Indiana, was sentenced on April 26, 2010, by Judge Robert Miller, Jr., to 151 months’ imprisonment and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to knowingly distributing visual depictions using any means or facility of interstate or foreign commerce, and the production of such depictions involved the use of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and such visual depiction was of such conduct activities relating to material constituting or containing child pornography. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Indiana State Police, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Maciejczyk.

Jacques Thomas, 24, of South Bend, Indiana, plead guilty on April 26, 2010, before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to possession of a firearm as a drug user. Thomas admitted that he possessed a Harrington & Richardson, shotgun, Model Pardner, 12 gauge; and a Ruger, pistol, Model P89, 9mm. During the 2009, time period, he admitted that he was a regular user of marijuana. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald Schmid.

Tommie J. Ramey, 23, of Goshen, Indiana plead guilty on April 27, 2010, before Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to possession of a firearm as a drug user. Ramey admitted that he was a regular user of marijuana. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald Schmid.

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
