Seeking Victim Information in Mubasher Riaz and Muzzammil Riaz Wire Fraud Investigation
The FBI’s Detroit Division is seeking to identify potential victims of Mubasher Riaz and/or Muzzammil Riaz, who were recently charged with wire fraud. The FBI believes they targeted individuals and corporate victims via the Internet between the timeframe of July 2017 and November 2023.
The subjects purchased high-end electronics and other online goods and fraudulently executed a return/refund scam to defraud the sellers. The subjects manipulated vendors’ various refund/return processes by using multiple different IP addresses, email addresses, purchase/shipping/return addresses, etc. After submitting a refund, the subjects returned nonfunctioning clones, broken items of similar size and weight, or empty boxes. By successfully executing the scheme, the subjects maintained possession of the items they originally purchased and obtained a refund from the seller. The subjects then sold the items on various online marketplaces for a profit.
