Assistance for Victims of the Gilroy Garlic Festival Shooting in California

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Gilroy Police Department with investigating the July 28, 2019 shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California. Crimes can have a devastating effect on victims and their families who may need assistance coping with the impact. Providing information and assistance to victims of the shooting is an important part of our work.

The FBI is legally mandated to identify victims of federal crimes that are under investigation and provide these victims with information, assistance services, and resources. The FBI’s Victim Services Division (VSD) is uniquely suited to provide emergency assistance to victims of domestic and international terrorism and mass violence crimes due to its national and international scope and extensive experience in responding to victims of these crimes.

If you were injured in or witnessed the shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, you may be eligible for certain services and rights, including special funding to provide emergency assistance, crime victim compensation, and counseling. To identify as a person present at the festival when the shooting occurred or to report any personal belongings lost at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, please fill out this brief questionnaire and include as much detail about your lost item(s) as possible. We will work to get your identified items back to you as soon as possible.

NOTE: If you have investigative information about the shooting, please contact the Gilroy Police Department at (408) 846-0583. If you have photos or videos pertaining to the shooting or immediately before or after the shooting that could help law enforcement, please submit them at www.fbi.gov/gilroy.

Family Assistance Center

If you or a family member were present at the Gilroy Garlic Festival on Sunday, July 28, 2019, you are eligible for services. Spanish speakers will be available. Services will be provided regardless of immigration status.

  • Grief counseling and emotional support
  • Assistance filing claims for state funds for payment of medical bills, counseling bills, and other assistance for victims and their families
  • Referrals to agencies and providers for medical, counseling, and other services

Personal belongings will be available to retrieve at the Wheeler Community Center Family Assistance Center location, 350 W 6th Street, Gilroy, CA 95020, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., August 6 - 8. We are working diligently to return all items and appreciate your patience, as some items have not been released. Vendors wishing to retrieve their booth and/or items must coordinate return with the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association.
