2023 Director’s Community Leadership Award Recipient

The Knoxville Division honors the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. Affectionally known as “The Bessie,” the center preserves and celebrates African American history and culture in Chattanooga. The Bessie routinely hosts vital panels for minorities and equality efforts, organizes youth events, and encourages minority entrepreneurship. Center leaders also participate in the FBI’s Chattanoogans for Civil Rights Working Group. Accepting on behalf of the organization is Paula Wilkes.
