FBI Honolulu honors Pono Shim. Mr. Shim organized small groups led by community leaders to teach Hawaiian youth that the greeting “aloha” is a commitment to accepting others and extending themselves to their community with dignity. He also teaches that “Ohana” means to unleash grace collectively. Youth learn that implementing “aloha” and “ohana” into their lives can lead them to success while making a positive impact on their community. Many schools have implemented their own programs based on Mr. Shim’s model.
