Major Drug Ring Busted in Eastern District of Texas

BEAUMONT, TX—U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced that 16 individuals were arrested today on charges of drug trafficking in the Eastern District of Texas.
A federal indictment was returned by the grand jury on Aug. 5, 2009, charging multiple defendants with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 1000 kilograms or more of marijuana. The following individuals are in custody and were brought before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin for Initial Appearances today:

If convicted, defendants face up to Life in federal prison. A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case is being investigated by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Internal Revenue Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, the Dayton Police Department, the Pasadena Police Department, the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the Houston Police Department, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys John A. Craft and James Peacock.
