The Honolulu office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is hosting a Foreign Language Career Fair on Saturday, December 4, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Honolulu Community College, Building #2, 2nd Floor, 874 Dillingham Blvd., Honolulu, Hawaii. The purpose of the career fair is to meet and assess individuals interested in full or part-time contract linguist jobs with the FBI, a position with starting pay from $27.00 to $41.00 per hour.

The FBI is a unique organization that conducts criminal and national security investigations throughout the world. FBI linguists work closely with special agents and analysts in these investigations to enforce federal laws, safeguard our nation’s secrets, and protect America from terrorist attacks. Honolulu FBI Special Agent Tom Simon said, “Hawaii is a melting pot of many cultures, so having a solid team of linguists on-call is key to helping the FBI accomplish our mission.”

The contract linguist position requires sole U.S. citizenship and fluency in English and any foreign language. On the job training is provided to qualified individuals, and some travel may be required. Candidates for full-time governmental employment with the FBI as language analysts are periodically selected from the ranks of contract linguists.

Saturday’s Foreign Language Career Fair will give interested applicants an opportunity to meet FBI personnel and gather more information about the contract positions available. Interested applicants should bring a resume and be prepared for onsite foreign language assessment interviews.

Interested individuals who are unable to attend the career fair but wish to apply may do so at https://www.fbijobs.gov/talent-networks/language-opportunities.
