Former Canutillo I.S.D. Teacher Sentenced to Federal Prison on Child Pornography Charge

U.S. Attorney’s Office June 05, 2012
  • Western District of Texas (210) 384-7100

United States Attorney Robert Pitman announced that in El Paso today, 46-year-old Joachim Rudolf Hees (pronounced “Hays”), a former Canutillo I.S.D. teacher, was sentenced to 90 months in federal prison followed by 10 years of supervised release for receipt of child pornography. In addition to the prison term and supervised release, United States Senior District Judge David Briones ordered that Hees pay a $2,500 fine.

In December 2008, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence and seized three home computers as well as related electronic media. A forensics examination of the seized materials revealed the presence of close to 600 images depicting child pornography. On January 5, 2012, Hees pleaded guilty to the charge.

Assistant United States Attorneys Daniel Crumby and J. Brandy Gardes prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
