FBI Receives Tip and Arrests Impersonator

At approximately 8:10 this morning, The FBI, acting on an anonymous tip from a concerned citizen, arrested William Trinity Mendoza at his residence in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mendoza is believed to be responsible for stealing personal checks and passing them off to local businesses in El Paso and Anthony, Texas while he was impersonating an FBI agent. FBI agents and El Paso Police Department task force officers arrested Mendoza without incident and transported him to the El Paso County Detention Center  He will have his initial appearance on Wednesday afternoon, where he faces charges of impersonating an FBI agent as well as illegal use of a financial instrument. 

This case is being worked by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which includes the El Paso Police Department and El Paso Sheriff’s Department.
