Seeking Information on Midland Health Care Fraud Fugitive

In February 2003, as a jury was being selected for the federal trial of Dr. Dipakkumar “Dipak” Dhanjibhai Patel, Patel fled from his Midland, Texas, home and has not been seen since. Patel was tried and convicted in absentia of 47 counts related to health care fraud (45 of mail fraud, one of health care fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud). He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and ordered to pay over $8 million in restitution, all related to a scheme to defraud insurance companies using his Midland Walk-In Clinic.

In March 2003, an Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution warrant was also filed against Patel. He is believed to now be in India. Patel is described as:

  • White Male (Indian decent)
  • 5’10”
  • 151 lbs
  • Black hair
  • Black eyes
  • Age: 53 (born in 1956)
