Murder Suspects are Returned to Michigan After Eight Years

David P. Gelios, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Division, announced that Juan Reyes and Eric Reyes were returned to Michigan last night in connection with a 2007 murder in Grand Rapids.

Mr. J. Reyes and Mr. E. Reyes are accused in a September 2007 drive-by shooting that resulted in murder. They fled the country shortly after the incident. The Reyes brothers were apprehended yesterday in Guadalajara, Mexico and were returned to Michigan last night. Both Reyes brothers were living in Guadalajara under aliases.

This investigation was worked by the FBI Detroit Division-Grand Rapids Resident Agency and the Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force. VCFTF partners include City of Grand Rapids Police, Kent County Sheriff, Michigan Department of Corrections, Ionia County Sheriff, and Greenville Department of Public Safety. The Wyoming, Michigan Police Department the Legal Attache in Mexico City and Mexican authorities also assisted in the arrests and deportations in this case. The Kent County Silent Observers Program’s assistance was also invaluable.

SAC David P. Gelios said, “Regardless of the span of time, or the distances involved, these sorts of perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice. This case took years of collaborative, determined work. It is gratifying to see the dedicated work of our people, and from all of our law enforcement partners pay off.”
