Special Agent in Charge Laura A. Bucheit (Las Vegas Division) and Acting Special Agent in Charge John Robert Shoup (Detroit Division) announced the arrest of wanted fugitive Michael Duane Lawrence. Lawrence was arrested by FBI agents in Las Vegas on Friday, August 30, 2013.

Lawrence, a 24-year-old man from Saginaw, Michigan, was wanted in connection with the shooting death of a 6-year-old girl, as well as the shooting death of Lawrence’s former girlfriend. The Saginaw County, Michigan Prosecutor’s Office charged Lawrence with murder in a warrant which was issued on September 3, 2012. The Saginaw Police Department (SPD), which investigated the homicide cases, sought the assistance of the FBI when officers determined that Lawrence likely had fled the state of Michigan.

FBI agents in Michigan obtained a federal warrant charging Lawrence with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution (UFAP). A multi-state manhunt was begun. Lawrence was arrested in Las Vegas by the Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT), an FBI-led task force made up of the FBI, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and Henderson Police Department.

Lawrence will be held in jail in Las Vegas pending extradition to Michigan.
