GRAND RAPIDS, MI—Jason Michael Wood, 31, of Chino Hills, California pled guilty to using a facility of interstate commerce to entice a minor to engage in sex, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today.

Wood admitted at his change of plea hearing yesterday that he met the 15-year-old victim in an Internet chat-room, and fostered a “relationship” with her via e-mail and cell phone. Wood then traveled to the Western District of Michigan, where he rented a hotel room for a week. Wood admitted that he would pick the victim up from her high school each morning, take her to the hotel for sex each day, and then return her to school before dismissal. Meanwhile, the victim’s parents believed she was at school. Wood faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years, and may be sentenced to any term up to life in prison. Following his release, Wood will be supervised for a term of five years to life, and will be required to register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney Davis commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Michigan State Police (Wayland Post) for their thorough investigation. This case was prosecuted on behalf of the United States by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nils R. Kessler.
