Former Cobo Hall Director Sentenced in Bribery Investigation

Former Cobo Hall Director E. Louis Pavledes, 55, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Marianne O. Battani to 14 months in prison for structuring financial transactions related to bribe payments he received from a Cobo contractor, United States Attorney Terrence Berg announced today.
Pavledes had served as the Director of the Cobo Hall Civic Center from 1996 to 2004.
Berg was joined in the announcement by Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent In Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Maurice Aouate, Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Internal Revenue Service.
United States Attorney Berg said, “This prosecution underscores my office’s commitment to root out corruption in city government, at whatever level it exists.”
The investigation of this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Michael Bullotta and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark D. Chutkow.
