A man who police believe held up at least five banks by writing demand notes on the back of other people’s old checks was tracked down and caught by the FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force Monday night. The FBI Denver SWAT team arrested the so-called Check Yourself Bandit, Ronald Hedglin-Neidhardt, 34, last evening.

While the suspect did not show a weapon, agents say he wrote notes threatening to harm the bank tellers if they didn’t hand over the money.

After his arrest, Hedglin-Neidhardt allegedly confessed to robbing the five banks, some back-to-back, in Denver, Lakewood, and Littleton since February 24.

“This is another great job by all of the partnering agencies on the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force. The officers and agents worked together to capture Hedglin-Neidhardt before he hurt anyone, as he continuously threatened to do,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Thomas Ravenelle. “Our thanks to the task force for getting him off the streets.”

Hedglin-Neidhardt is being held on robbery-related charges for the following banks:

• First Bank, 1316 E. Evans Avenue, Denver on February 24, 2016
• U.S. Bank, 1248 S. Broadway, Denver on February 26, 2016
• Wells Fargo, 1905 S. Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood on February 29, 2016
• Wells Fargo, 7580 S. Pierce, Littleton on March 5, 2016
• TCF Bank, 2090 S. University, Denver on March 7, 2016

The suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant. He was booked through the Denver Police Department, where a mug shot is available.
