Arrest in the Murder of Shyrone Brown

WYOMING—Shyrone R. Brown was found dead on the Wind River Reservation in Fort Washakie, Wyoming, on Monday morning, July 6, 2009.  The Fremont County Coroner has determined the manner of Mr. Brown’s death to be a homicide.  Final autopsy results are pending.

On Friday, July 10, 2009, Mark James Sonnip, 20 years of age, of Ethete, Wyoming, was arrested by members of the FBI and Wind River Police Department in connection with Mr. Brown’s death.  On Monday, July 13, 2009, Mr. Sonnip was charged with first degree murder in a federal criminal complaint in the District of Wyoming.  Sonnip is being held in federal custody pending his next court appearance.

The homicide investigation is ongoing and further details will not be released.  The case is being investigated by the FBI and Wind River Police Department.

A complaint is only an accusation.  In every criminal case, the accused is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty, and the government always has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
