Bank Robber Sentenced to More Than Three Years in Federal Prison for Robbing His Own Bank
Defendant Provided His Social Security Number to Teller

DALLAS—Jacory Stephon Walker, 19, of Dallas, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay to 37 months in federal prison, following his guilty plea in June 2012 to one count of bank robbery, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas.

According to documents filed in the case, on January 17, 2012, Walker entered the 1st Convenience Bank, located inside a Walmart Store on Highway 77 in Waxahachie, Texas. Walker approached a teller and stated he wanted to make a withdrawal but did not have his account information. Walker then provided the teller his name and Social Security number so that the teller could look up his account. After the teller advised him that he owed money on his account, Walker departed the bank. Approximately 10 minutes later, at 9:40 a.m., Walker returned to the bank, approached the same teller, and said he wanted to deposit $20 toward the amount owed. As the teller was preparing the deposit slip, Walker cleared his throat and slid a note on the counter with the words: “I have a gun. No noise. Just money.” The teller gave Walker cash from the drawer, and Walker left the bank. He was apprehended by officers with the Waxahachie Police Department as he left Walmart.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Waxahachie Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Taly Haffar was in charge of the prosecution.
