Robert E. Casey Jr., Special Agent In Charge, Dallas, FBI, statement on the arrest of CARLOS ORTIZ JR., a former special agent of the FBI.

On August 25, 2010, FBI special agents arrested CARLOS ORTIZ, JR., age 49, an FBI special agent who had been relieved of his duties, on a charge of threatening to assault or murder a federal law enforcement officer on account of the performance of official duty, in violation of Title 18 United States Code, Section 115.

The arrest occurred at the FBI Dallas office following an FBI investigation.

Mr. ORTIZ has been dismissed from FBI employment following an internal personnel inquiry.

Due to the pending criminal matter, it is inappropriate for the FBI to comment any further on this issue. Any release of additional information concerning the criminal charges and other associated activity will be provided through the United States Attorney’s Office as appropriate.

An arrest is not evidence of guilt. A defendant in a criminal case is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
