FORT WORTH, TX—David Crabtree, 41, of Stephenville, Texas, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Terry R. Means to five years and one day in prison, for committing the armed robbery of the Members Trust Federal Credit Union of the Southwest in Stephenville, Texas, on March 13, 2009, announced U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks of the Northern District of Texas. Crabtree was arrested on March 25, 2009 on related charges outlined in a criminal complaint and has been in custody since that time.

In May 2009, Crabtree pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery and one count of using or carrying a firearm during a crime of violence. In plea documents filed, Crabtree admitted that on March 13, 2009, he entered the credit union carrying a Ruger 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. He approached one of the tellers, handed her a tan canvas bag and instructed her to put the money in the bag. Crabtree then fled.

According to the affidavit filed with the criminal complaint, the robber entered the credit union, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, and a bandanna covering his face, and pulled out his pistol once inside the credit union. He also rounded-up those inside the credit union and directed them to sit on a couch during the robbery.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Klinck.
