Arrest of Jan Javier Fernandez Libed

SAN JUAN, PR—Special Agent in Charge Douglas A. Leff, of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Field Office, announced the arrest of Jan Javier Fernandez Libed (Fernandez).

On December 10, 2019, Fernandez was detained by Police of Puerto Rico (POPR) at POPR Headquarters in San Juan, where he was later arrested by FBI agents of the Violent Crimes Squad.

Fernandez was charged under a complaint with violations of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1951(a) (Interference with Commerce by Threats or Violence) and Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c)(1)(A)(ii) (Brandishing of a Firearm in furtherance of a crime), for participating in an armed robbery, which took place in Puerto Nuevo, on November 18, 2019. If found guilty, subject faces up to 15 years in federal prison.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Juan Carlos Reyes and is being investigated by the FBI.
