100 Club of San Antonio President Richard Miller Selected for FBI Director’s 2018 Community Leadership Award

FBI San Antonio Division Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs is pleased to announce local businessman Richard Miller has been selected for the FBI Director’s 2018 Community Leadership Award. Miller is President of 100 Club of San Antonio, a nonprofit which has the mission of serving the children and families of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters.

On Friday, May 3, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray held the annual Director’s Community Leadership Award ceremony in Washington, D.C., to honor the outstanding contributions of community leaders and organizations. Miller was joined by approximately 55 other recipients from around the country.

Since 1973, the 100 Club of San Antonio serves all peace officers and firefighters in the 26 municipalities within Bexar County, Texas. In 2012, the bylaws were amended under Miller’s leadership to include all state and federal officers located in Bexar County as well.

In 2017, Miller built and implemented a proactive training program to help first responders keep safe on the job that included tactical first aid, Krav Maga defensive tactics, and verbal de-escalation training. That same year, he created and implemented the “100ClubSA Coping, Counseling, and Mental Health Awareness” initiative, which partnered with San Antonio Behavioral Healthcare to assist first responders with behavioral health needs. Due to his work, a new support program will launch this year to assist the families of injured first responders. He also oversees a new 100ClubSA Schools Program to help bridge the gap between law enforcement officers and minority communities, including an elementary school, which serves San Antonio’s largest homeless shelter, and an elementary school, which has historically been a magnet for gang activity. This work extends to partnering with other nonprofits with a focus on at-risk youth.

The FBI, through its Community Outreach Program, has recognized the achievements of individuals or organizations for their supportive efforts in the areas of terrorism, crime, cyber, drug, gang, or violence prevention and education by presenting the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award since 1990. Each year, the special agent in charge of each FBI field office selects an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to their communities in these areas.

The San Antonio Division is honored to recognize Richard Miller as its recipient for the 2018 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award.
