Statement by Promise Marks, Mother of Curtis D. Smith

Official Statement from Promise Marks, Curtis Smith’s Mother

On February 25, 2021, I lost my only son to a brutal act of gun violence. My son, Curtis Davon Smith, was only 25 years old. To lose a child in such an inhumane way is devastating on so many levels. The effect that this has had on me and my life is beyond words. I will never be the same again, and the pain of this loss I will carry with me the rest of my life. Curtis was my world, he was a young father, he was talented in many areas, he loved his family, his children, and his friends. He didn't deserve what happened to him.

When I think about what happened to him, how he was found in a park around 10 p.m. that night, I'm haunted by the thoughts of what he must have went through. Not knowing if he saw this coming is terrifying to me. As a result of this horrible tragedy, he will never get the chance to fulfill his dreams as his life was cut short and now gone too soon.

He leaves behind two beautiful little girls ages 4 and 5 who will now have to grow up without their daddy. Whoever is responsible for this crime needs to be brought to justice. Curtis' family needs proper closure. While it won't bring him back, we hope that by getting whoever is responsible off the street we can prevent this from happening to another family.

On behalf of Curtis, myself, and his entire family, we are asking for the public to help us with any information you may have regarding what happened to my son. My son traveled to Portland to attend a funeral of which we can't confirm if this funeral ever took place. Somebody saw what happened and somebody knows what happened. We need you to come forward with what you know. Once again my son didn't deserve to lose his life in this manner.

Please help us get justice for Curtis Davon Smith.
