FCI Hazelton Inmate Sentenced for Assaulting, Injuring Correctional Officer
CLARKSBURG, WV—Carlos Lupercio, a 30-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution at Hazelton, was convicted and sentenced today for assaulting a correctional officer, United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced.
In July 2014, another FCI Hazelton inmate was involved in a dispute with a correctional officer. Lupercio joined in the dispute, striking the officer in the head and torso and jumping on his back. He pled guilty today to one count of “Assault of a Correctional Officer Resulting in Injury.” He was sentenced to an additional 24 months in prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Special Investigative Services Unit at FCI Hazelton are leading the investigation.
