FBI Safely Removed Suspicious Material from Lawton Hospital

OKLAHOMA CITY—The FBI Oklahoma City Field Office alongside law enforcement partners safely removed suspicious material from Comanche Community Memorial Hospital, Friday evening, May 18, 2018.

The FBI was contacted following reports of a suspicious package found by staff inside the Comanche Community Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. Hospital staff immediately evacuated the floor of the hospital in accordance with hospital protocol and contacted local authorities.

Bomb technicians from the FBI and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol immediately responded to the scene and located the device. After locating what looked to be a homemade explosive device, technicians were able to render the device safe and remove any immediate threat without incident. A full sweep was conducted of the building and no additional threats were found. The device was removed successfully from the facility and the evacuation was lifted.

The device will be analyzed further by the FBI.
