FBI Seeking Information on Violent Armed Bank Robber

The FBI’s Newark Field Office requests the public’s assistance with identifying the individual or individuals responsible for the violent, armed bank robbery of a Wachovia Bank branch located at 40 West Price Street in Linden, New Jersey, in early 2011. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for this robbery.

On February 2, 2011, at 3:55 p.m., an individual, posing as a delivery person, knocked on the door of a stand alone, drive-up branch of a Wachovia Bank located at 40 West Price Street, Linden, New Jersey. This drive-up branch was located a half a block from the main branch. At the time of the robbery, the bank, which was occupied by two tellers, was transitioning to a Wells Fargo Bank, and it was not unusual for the branch to receive occasional deliveries. The suspect was holding a package, giving the impression he was making a delivery. One of the employees opened the door to accept what was believed to be a delivery and was immediately sprayed in the face with mace by the suspect. After forcing his way into the bank, he then forced one of the tellers at gunpoint to fill a bag with cash. He then proceeded to lock both tellers in the bathroom and remove the security camera recording. The suspect fled the bank on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male, 220 pounds, mid-30s to early 40s. He was wearing a brown or blue delivery uniform and cap, similar to a parcel delivery person. Witnesses describe the suspect as being familiar with bank delivery procedures.

Anyone with information about this subject or robbery is urged to contact the FBI Newark Division at 973-792-3000.
