FBI Announces Second Suspect in Jewelry Store Robberies Investigation

The FBI Jacksonville Division announces that charges have been filed in a federal complaint against a second suspect in multiple jewelry store robberies across the Southeast region.

On Friday, January 8, while assisting the FBI Jacksonville Division in the investigation, agents from the FBI Atlanta Division and officers from the Atlanta Police Department made contact with Lewis Jones III, 35, in Smyrna, Georgia. At the time, Jones was in the company of Abigail Lee Kemp, 24, whom FBI agents had identified as a suspect in the jewelry store robberies following multiple credible leads from the public. As a result of further investigative efforts since that time, Jones is now named as the second suspect who the FBI was seeking to identify.

Jones is currently in custody on bank robbery charges in a separate criminal complaint filed by the Dekalb County Police Department in Georgia.

“We continue to thank the public for providing us with information that helped our agents identify and locate these suspects. This case is an example of how valuable the relationship between law enforcement and the public is in fighting crime,” said Michelle S. Klimt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division. “We also, again, thank our media partners who provided us with invaluable assistance by publicizing our need for information.”

The federal case will be handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida. The individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at later criminal proceedings.
