Communications Veteran Joins Indianapolis FBI Office

INDIANAPOLIS—W. Jay Abbott, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Indianapolis Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announces the addition of Chris Bavender as Public Affairs Specialist for the FBI’s Indianapolis Division.

“Chris is an experienced communications professional who brings a wealth of experience to this role and will be a welcome asset to the FBI’s Indianapolis Division,” SAC Abbott said. “While many other FBI Field Offices have had public affairs specialists, this position is new to our office and we are excited to have someone dedicated full-time in this role to continue to help spread the message of our mission.”

Bavender most recently was with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s (IMPD) media relations team. Prior to that, she was Communications Director for the Department of Public Safety, City of Indianapolis. Bavender also served as Communications Director for former Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller; Managing Editor of NewsLink Indiana, an innovative news immersion program at Ball State University that trained journalists; and Broadcast Journalism Coordinator for the Pulliam School of Journalism at Franklin College. Her experience also includes more than 15 years as a broadcast journalist in Salisbury, MD; Albany, GA; Knoxville, TN, and Indianapolis (WISH-TV, RTV6 and WTHR-TV).
