Help Stop Elder Fraud: Join FBI El Paso on June 15th on How to Protect Yourself From Common Elder Fraud Scams

EL PASO, TX—The FBI El Paso Field Office, in collaboration with Harvest Christian Center, will be hosting an in-person and web livestream event on June 15, 2022.

The level of elder fraud crime has increased in our country due to many factors over the last five years. As our country continues to make medical advances and new health/aging discoveries, Americans are tending to live longer after retirement. It is expected that within the next five years the elder community will make up one-fifth of our total population. Each day in this country 10,000 people turn 65.

In the last two years, the elder community has become less fearful about having an online presence due to the pandemic. This elder generation is retiring with more wealth than any other group in our country’s history. It is for these reasons and others, that this group is being targeted by domestic and international criminals in person, over the phone, by mail, and through the Internet, resulting in losses of over $1.7 billion in 2021, a 74% increase in losses reported in 2020, and it is projected to continue to get worse.

On June 15, 2022, the FBI El Paso Field Office, in collaboration with Harvest Christian Center, will provide two one-hour presentations to inform our elder community and interested community members of how the elderly are being targeted, why they are being targeted, what they can do to minimize their risk of becoming a target, and lastly what to do if they think they might be a victim or potential victim of elder fraud.

We invite you to watch the virtual livestreamed national presentations or to attend at Harvest Christian Center, located at 1345 New Harvest Place in El Paso, Texas. Presentations will be at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. MST and livestreamed on Harvest Christian Center’s webpage at www.hccelpaso.com.

We hope you can join us in spreading the word on how we can all protect our families from elder fraud.
