The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announces the selection of Gregory Dwayne Davis as recipient of the 2018 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA). On January 18, 2019, Special Agent in Charge Emmerson Buie, Jr. presented Mr. Davis with the award at the NAACP Chapter office in El Paso, Texas. On Friday, May 3, 2019, FBI Director Christopher Wray will present Mr. Davis with the award during a formal ceremony at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The Community Leadership Award was created in 1990 to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and civil rights education and prevention. The FBI presents the award to community leaders who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service.

Mr. Davis has been involved in multiple community outreach functions for almost twenty years.

Mr. Davis started with Masjid Al-Nur the Mosque on Fort Bliss, Texas, and then in the early 90’s with the Islamic Center of El Paso. He has been involved in many of the Islamic Center community outreach programs that include but not limited to Open Houses, and numerous Jail and Detention Programs.

Mr. Davis is the current President of the NAACP El Paso Chapter. The NAACP provides scholarships to local children and provides assistance to the local community in a variety of areas. Through the NAACP, Mr. Davis is a board member of the McCall Neighborhood Center. The McCall Neighborhood Center preserves and advances the history of the El Paso African-American community in an atmosphere that nurtures both young and old. By offering integrated services that enhance the quality of life for all, the McCall Center is the focal point for building the community spirit that will spark community revitalization. The Center is El Paso’s key gathering place for many small organizations.

Mr. Davis has been a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity since 1981 and continues to serve the community in the Chapter’s Guide Right program. This is a program of educational and occupational guidance of youth, primarily inspirational and informative in character. The program utilizes successful men to mentor and inspire the youth as they become of age. Through the KAP Fraternity, Mr. Davis contributes to the El Paso State Supported Living Center, a campus-based direct services program that provides support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Mr. Davis has worked to improve the quality of life in our community by leading and inspiring many others to positively impact the El Paso region by being a hands-on leader. It is an honor for the El Paso Office to have Mr. Davis receive such prestigious recognition.
