FORT WASHAKIE MAN SENTENCED IN ASSAULT AND INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER CASES

United States Attorney Bob Murray announced today that ROYCE NEIL PERRY JR a/k/a “Chucky,” 24, of Fort Washakie, Wyoming, was sentenced for one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of involuntary manslaughter by Chief United States District Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on December 20, 2021. Perry received a total sentence of 46 months’ imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution and a $200 special assessment.  

Perry was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 22, 2021, in two indictments. The first indictment alleged that on the early morning of April 19, 2019, a female driver picked up Perry, who was walking along a highway on the Wind River Reservation. After being driven a short distance, Perry began striking the woman in the head. The woman fled from her vehicle and Perry chased her down and kicked her in the head and face with his boots until she lost consciousness.

The second indictment alleged that on November 2, 2020, after ingesting methamphetamine and marijuana, Perry drove a truck in a reckless manner on the Wind River Reservation. The ultimately truck rolled and ejected a female passenger who was killed by blunt force trauma.

“Prosecuting violent crimes on the Wind River Indiana Reservation is a priority for my office, and I hope this sentence brings some amount of closure and justice to the victims and their families,” said United States Attorney Bob Murray. “I would like to thank our partners at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Wind River Police Department and the Lander Police Department for their investigative efforts, which resulted in the successful prosecution and sentencing of Perry.”

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the Bureau of India Affairs Wind River Police Department and the Lander Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Elmore prosecuted the case.
