FBI Denver to Host Linguist Recruitment Events

Fluent in a Foreign Language? The FBI is Hiring!

If you are a U.S. citizen proficient in English and at least one foreign language, the FBI wants to hear from you. FBI Denver is hosting two informative recruitment events about the FBI Independent Contract Linguist opportunity. The first is a live Twitter chat on August 25, 2022, and the second is an invitation-only virtual information session on September 21, 2022.

The FBI is looking for U.S. citizens proficient in several languages, including:

  • Chinese
  • Arabic (Yemeni & Iraqi dialects)
  • Pashto-Afghani
  • Persian-Farsi, Persian-Afghani (Dari)
  • Russian

FBI Independent Contract Linguists can work part-time and have scheduling flexibility to accommodate other work/life commitments. They are selected to provide service based on specialized experience and the need for their respective languages in current FBI initiatives. Duties might include:

  • Translating written or audio materials, generally from the foreign language into English;
  • Interpreting during interviews with witnesses, victims, or subjects of a crime, or visits with foreign dignitaries;
  • Providing cultural expertise relating to any matter over which the FBI has jurisdiction.

“These interactive information sessions enable us to connect directly with prospective linguist applicants, which gives them the unique opportunity to ask questions and learn how their language skills and expertise are crucial to supporting the FBI’s mission,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider. “We hope to engage with potential candidates who reflect the diverse cultural and linguistic communities we serve.”

The events are open to candidates of all backgrounds, and we encourage members of ethnic and gender groups underrepresented in law enforcement to participate.

The live Twitter chat on @FBIDenver will take place 11:30-12:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time (MDT) on Thursday, August 25, 2022. Interested participants may submit their questions during the event using the hashtag #FBILinguist on the @FBIDenver Twitter feed, or they may be submitted prior to the event to DN_Language@fbi.gov.

The virtual information session is an invitation-only event on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Priority to attend will be given to those whose languages are included in the list above or are deemed a critical need for the FBI. To be considered for this event, visit FBIjobs.gov and search for job # 41634, the Contract Linguist Interest Pool. The deadline to register is August 31, 2022, at 9:59 p.m. MDT.

During this event, FBI Denver and Headquarters-based personnel will share their experiences and insight about serving as a contract linguist. Additionally, there will be information to help prospective applicants prepare for the FBI’s multi-step application process.
