BLACKBURN PLEADS GUILTY TO CARJACKING AND ASSAULT ON THE WIND RIVER RESERVATION

United States Attorney Bob Murray announced today that SHANE DUANE BLACKBURN, age 33, of Fort Washakie, Wyoming pleaded guilty to carjacking and assaulting a federal officer during a change of plea hearing on March 8, 2022 before Chief United States District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl. Sentencing has been set for May 27, 2022.

If convicted on both charges, Blackburn could face up to 23 years’ imprisonment, up to a $500,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release and a $200 special assessment. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

This crime is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Elmore.
