FBI Dallas Says “Leave Your Drone at Home”
If You’re a Drone Operator, Ensure You’re Aware of All Airspace Restrictions
DALLAS—If you are a drone operator, ensure you are aware of all restrictions, including state and local drone regulations.
The FBI has the authority to seize drones that violate a temporary flight restriction (TFR) established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Drone operators may even face civil penalties or criminal charges.
“Unmanned aircraft systems—or drones—are legal and have many legitimate uses,” explained Dallas FBI Special Agent in Charge Chad Yarbrough. “However, drone presence in a restricted environment presents safety challenges to law enforcement and to the public.”
The FAA’s B4UFLY service shows where all drone pilots can and cannot fly. Drone operators can access information about controlled airspace, special use airspace, critical infrastructure, airports, national parks, military training routes, and temporary flight restrictions.
Operating a drone in a prohibited area is dangerous and illegal. Report suspicious drone activity to the FBI at tips.fbi.gov or 1-800-CALL-FBI.
