July 14, 2022: Family Assistance Center Closing July 15 

The Highland Park Family Assistance Center will permanently close on July 15 at 7 p.m.; however, comprehensive support services will still be offered as part of a community-led effort. Visit hpstrong.info to learn how to access these resources after July 15.

July 8, 2022 Family Assistance Center update :

  • All property in Zones 1-6 and C is now available for pick-up at the FAC at Highland Park High School, 433 Vine St. The community may enter at Entrance H. A government ID is necessary for entrance. If ID was dropped during the incident, we can still work with victims to reunify them with their belongings.
  • The FAC will be open Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. After that time, the FAC will be suspending operations. As victim support and property recovery will continue at a separate location, the public is asked to watch hpstrong.info for updates.
  • Community members seeking support will continue to have access to the below resources online. No proof of citizenship is required to access services:
  • Though a call for blood donations has not been made specifically in conjunction with this emergency, the need for blood donation remains constant. Those interested in donation can reach out to local blood collection agencies or visit redcrossblood.org.

Original announcement (July 6, 2022):

  • A Family Assistance Center (FAC) will open today, Wednesday, July 6, beginning at noon. Support services and crisis assistance will be offered, including counseling and mental health services, spiritual care, and financial assistance, if needed.
  • FAC services are available to those directly impacted by the events at the Highland Park 4th of July Parade. Victims are not just those who are physically injured, but also those were present and may be experiencing emotional distress.
  • All personal effects left along the parade route are slowly being evaluated for investigative purposes. Law enforcement requests the public's patience as they evaluate what may be returned at this time.  
  • Personal effects found on Central Avenue between Green Bay Road and Second Street will be available for return the afternoon of July 6 at the FAC.


Centro de Asistencia Familiar Para Víctimas del Tiroteo en Highland Park 

Un Centro de Asistencia Familiar (CAF) abrirá hoy, miércoles, 6 de julio, a partir del mediodía. Se ofrecerán servicios de apoyo y asistencia en situaciones de crisis, incluso servicios de terapia y salud mental, atención espiritual y asistencia financiera, de ser necesarios.

Los servicios del CAF están disponibles para quienes se vean directamente afectados por los sucesos ocurridos durante el desfile del 4 de julio en Highland Park. Individuals who left personal belongings at the parade outside of the secure perimeter can begin to retrieve them from the lost and found established at City Hall (1707 St. Johns Avenue.) Items will be available on the North Side Lawn beginning July 7 at noon.

Victims seeking services should enter via Entrance H. This entrance is located at Woodpath Ln. and St. Johns Ave.

What should I bring if going to the FAC? 

The public should bring a state ID to enter the school. 
Security will work with members of the public who do not have their ID because it is at the parade route.

The FBI's Victim Services resources are available for:

  • Members of the public present at and injured at Monday's parade
  • Next of kin of deceased victims
  • Members of the public present at Monday's parade and experiencing emotional distress

Local community resources are being provided for any member of the public affected by Monday's events, whether present at the parade or not.

Easily identifiable belongings that were dropped in the below locations are available for pick-up at the FAC during open hours.

What is an easily identifiable belonging?

Any item that can easily be reunited with an owner. Examples would generally be purses, bags, bicycles, phones, and strollers.

When will other belongings be available and why is there a delay?

After items are evaluated for investigative value, they will become available for pick-up. This process will unfortunately take time, but we will update the community as quickly as possible.

Can someone pick up someone else' belongings?

Each person may only pick up their own belongings.
