Update in Search for Suspect in Soldier's Murder

The search for murder fugitive Jason Earl Armstrong, Jr. has ended. After an intense investigation across multiple states, the FBI located Armstrong in Phoenix, Arizona, on July 27, 2016. Armstrong ran from law enforcement into an apartment located at 4326 N. 35th Avenue in Phoenix. The FBI and the Phoenix Police Special Assignments Unit began negotiating with Armstrong for his safe surrender. Some residents were temporarily relocated for their safety.

After hours of negotiations, law enforcement entered the apartment and located Armstrong unresponsive with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased. Cause of death will ultimately be determined by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Phoenix. The death investigation is being handled by the Phoenix Police Department.

The FBI is grateful to the many law enforcement agencies across the country for their assistance during this investigation, with special thanks to FBI Phoenix and the Phoenix Police Department.
