FBI Announces Arrest of Jewelry Store Robbery Suspect

As a result of multiple tips received by the public in recent days, a suspect in multiple jewelry store robberies across the Southeast region is now in FBI custody.

Abigail Lee Kemp, 24, was arrested without incident on Friday, January 8 in Smyrna, Georgia by agents from the FBI Atlanta Division who were assisting the FBI Jacksonville Division with the investigation.

One other individual who was with Kemp at the time of her arrest is also in custody. Due to on-going investigative efforts, the identity of the second person, and the details surrounding both arrests, are not being released at this time.

Within hours of issuing a press release this week requesting assistance in identifying the suspects, the FBI Jacksonville Division began to receive numerous credible leads from the public.

“We thank our partners in the media who provided invaluable assistance by publicizing our need for information from the public,” said Michelle S. Klimt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division. “We also thank the many callers who provided us with information to assist in the investigation. You are one of the most valuable resources law enforcement has in fighting crime and we appreciate your efforts.”

The FBI continues to encourage the public to provide information that may assist in the on-going investigation.

The case will be handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida. The individuals being held are persons of interest and are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at later criminal proceedings.
