FBI Seeks 'Boonie Hat' Armed Robber

FBI Atlanta, the Conyers Police Department, and the Villa Rica Police Department need the public’s help in identifying and locating a man who may be responsible for two armed robberies that happened in August 2015 and May 2016.

The description of the suspect leads us to believe it may be the same person in both armed robberies. The suspect in each case is wearing a wide brim hat that is commonly called a boonie hat.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at approximately 12:23 p.m., a lone white male entered the United Community Bank at 485 West Bankhead Highway in Villa Rica, Georgia and brandished a handgun wrapped in a cloth. The suspect robbed the bank and left in a late 1990s or early 2000s Ford Explorer, burgundy in color.

He was described as in his late 40s to early 50s, 5’7” to 6’0” tall, weighing between 150-170 pounds.

On Friday, May 27, 2016, a suspect similar in description walked into Fred’s Grocery at 425 Sigman Road in Conyers, Georgia and showed a handgun in his waistband. He ordered the clerk to open the register, the clerk refused, and the suspect left with a cigarette carton and a toy.

The suspect was wearing a boonie hat.

If you recognize the suspect or have information about either armed robbery, call FBI Atlanta at (404) 679-9000 or call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at (404) 577-TIPS (8477).
