FBI Announces Reward and Billboard Campaign for Unsolved Columbus Murder
COLUMBUS, GA—The FBI Columbus Resident Agency, in conjunction with the Columbus Police Department, announces a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) in connection with the murder of Destiny Nelson, age 17, of Columbus, Georgia.
On January 16, 2017, Destiny Nelson was shot and killed in her apartment at 11B Creek Way in the Bull Creek Apartment complex in Columbus. An unknown individual knocked on the apartment and fired multiple gunshots through the closed door striking Destiny and killing her.
Investigators with the Columbus Police Department believe the murder was a gang-related retaliation hit and the suspect(s) chose the wrong apartment. Nelson was an innocent victim. She was a high school honors student and had no gang ties or involvement with gangs.
The FBI’s $10,000 reward is in addition to an earlier reward of $15,000 offered by the Columbus Police Department.
The reward is also a part of a digital billboard campaign throughout the Columbus metropolitan area. The FBI would like to thank Outfront Media, Inc., for their contribution to the digital billboard campaign.
Anyone with information about Destiny Nelson’s murder is asked to contact the FBI at 770-216-3000 or go to tips.fbi.gov. You can also call the Columbus Police Department at 706-225-4367.
