U.S. Attorney’s Office September 21, 2010
  • District of South Carolina (803) 929-3000

COLUMBIA, SC—United States Attorney Bill Nettles stated that Myron William Ernst, age 52, of Ocala, Florida, was sentenced today in federal court in Charleston on six counts of bank robbery, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a). United States District Judge P. Michael Duffy sentenced Ernst to 137 months’ imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. Restitution in the amount of $11,000 was also ordered.

Evidence presented at the change of plea hearing established that on August 27, 2008, Ernst robbed the Regions Bank on Savannah Highway in Charleston, SC. Ernst was arrested the following day in Myrtle Beach, SC, for possession of a stolen vehicle. FBI agents then interviewed Ernst after fingerprints on the demand note left at the Regions Bank came back to him. Ernst confessed to robbing the Regions Bank, along with banks in Orange Park, Florida; Hunstville, Alabama; Mobile, Alabama; Panama City, Florida; and Montgomery, Alabama.

Mr. Nettles stated that the case was investigated by agents of the FBI and the City of Charleston Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Nick Bianchi of the Charleston office handled the case.
