FBI Adopts Carolina Springs Middle School in Lexington, South Carolina

Special Agent in Charge, David A. Thomas, Columbia Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Mr. Alan G. Zwart, Principal, Carolina Springs Middle School sealed their commitment when both signed the Memorandum of Understanding regarding Carolina Springs Middle School’s participation in the FBI’s 2009 Junior Special Agent Program, also commonly known as the “Adopt-A-School” program.

The FBI’s Adopt-A-School Program offers incentives for students to improve their attendance, academic achievement, and behavior through examples of role models emphasizing an anti-drug and anti-violence message. FBI volunteers help students to understand, appreciate, and develop a positive perspective of the FBI and law enforcement in general. The program consists of the a variety of classroom activities, physical fitness, and presentations by guest speakers, field trips, and mentoring/tutorial programs for students needing additional guidance in routine academic areas throughout the school year.

The FBI is inviting your media outlet to join us during this program, which commences on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 and will run every Wednesday thru April 29, 2009 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The FBI believes that this program would make for a wonderful community outreach piece, and is inviting you to also attend several of the sessions in order that the Lexington Community, as well as the Midlands can here about this wonderful program being held at Carolina Springs Middle.
