Cleveland Doctor Receives FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award

On Friday, April 15, 2016, The MetroHealth System’s Associate Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tom Collins, received the prestigious FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award.

Dr. Collins has provided invaluable contributions to the community through numerous endeavors. Some of his accomplishments include overseeing the emergency department on the MetroHealth main campus; supervising Metro Life Flight; collaborating with Cleveland law enforcement for years to improve the preparation and training for potential terrorist related Weapons of Mass Destruction attacks, playing a key role in the integration of trauma center level emergency medicine and tactical law enforcement operations in the Cleveland area; assisting in the creation of the Tactical Emergency Medical System (TEMS) wherein law enforcement is trained in medical procedures to operate on the ground in high risk tactical operations; and sharing his knowledge and experiences through teaching and mentoring others.

Dr. Collins has proven to be a valuable and loyal friend to the Cleveland community, Cleveland Division of the FBI, and numerous law enforcement agencies in Northern Ohio.

The Director’s Community Leadership Award, presented by the Director of the FBI James Comey, was formally created in 1990 as a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in America. Visit the FBI website at www.fbi.gov for details on the people and organizations who have most recently been recognized around the country for their service above and beyond the call of duty to help keep America and its kids safe.

Dr. Collins joins the ranks of recent Cleveland recipients: Yvonne Pointer; Fred Szabo; Jimmy Malone; and the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center and Toledo’s Second Chance organization, both of which partner with the FBI to care for victims of crimes in Northern Ohio.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen Anthony said, “The FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award List of Cleveland area recipients is beyond impressive. The devotion and care shown to the people in our community is demonstrated daily by their work. The FBI thanks Dr. Collins for his countless contributions to the community and law enforcement, and for the passion and commitment he displays to those he provides care for each and every day.”

Akram Boutros, MD, FACHE, president and CEO of The MetroHealth System said, “The entire MetroHealth family congratulates Dr. Collins. We see Tom in action, every day, working to make a difference in this hospital and across the community. He is a true leader in every sense of the word and we join the FBI in honoring him.”
