Suspect Wanted for Trafficking in Counterfeit Goods Arrested

Stephen D. Anthony, Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the Northern District of Ohio, announces the execution of search warrants and a subsequent arrest in the Greater Toledo area.

Search warrants were executed at approximately 12 p.m. today at Richard A. Schmidt’s residence located at 1705 Marlow Road in Toledo and at Spindletop Sports Zone, 1234 North Main Street in Bowling Green. The adjacent four trailers associated with the Spindletop Sports Zone were also searched.

Richard Schmidt is suspected of trafficking in counterfeit goods or services, 18 U.S.C. 2320(a).

During the execution of these specified search warrants, firearms were discovered. Schmidt is under disability to possess a firearm. An arrest warrant was obtained for Schmidt, and he was taken into custody by federal law enforcement.

These federal search warrants and arrest warrant were executed by federal and local law enforcement agencies including the FBI, Toledo Police Department, Department of Homeland Security, Bowling Green Police Department, Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Highway Patrol, Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Sylvania Township Police Department, Perrysburg Township Police Department, and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. The federal search warrants are not sealed.
