Robbery of Sun Center Federal Credit Union in Wellington

FBI Cleveland October 24, 2012
  • Special Agent Vicki D. Anderson (216) 522-1400

Stephen D. Anthony, Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), for the Northern District of Ohio, and Chief Steve Rollins, Police Chief for Wellington, Ohio Police Department, announce the robbery of the Sun Center Federal Credit Union, which occurred on October 23, 2012.

The Sun Center Federal Credit Union located at 805 Patriot Drive, Wellington, Ohio, was robbed by a lone white male at approximately 3:36 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.

The subject is described as a white male approximately 5’6” in height. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, faded blue jean pants, black gloves, black shoes, and a wintery-type scarf (possibly red or purple in color) around his face; only his eyes were showing at the time of the robbery. A bluish/green/gray tattoo on the forearm of the subject was observed by a witness exiting the credit union prior to the robbery.

The subject entered the credit union, displayed a handgun, and ordered the first teller to place money from her teller drawer into a white garbage bag with a red tie. The teller complied, and the subject instructed the second teller to place money into the same bag. Upon compliance by the second teller, the subject ordered both tellers verbally and by pointing the gun at them to proceed to the back room of the building and close the door. Once the back room door was closed, the subject exited the credit union. No physical injuries were reported.

It is believed the subject exited the credit union by foot, traveled through a wooded area, and entered a getaway vehicle. It is not known at this time if the vehicle was driven by the subject or an accomplice.

Reward money is available for the successful identification and prosecution of the individual(s) responsible for this robbery. Any information should be provided to the FBI at 216-522-1400. Tips can remain anonymous.
