Three Men Charged with Armed Bank Robbery

U.S. Attorney’s Office October 21, 2011
  • Northern District of Ohio (216) 622-3600

Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, today announced that a federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging William McWhorter, age 38, of Cleveland, Ohio; Darrell Curry, age 27, of Cleveland, Ohio; and Dexter Moore, age 20, of Cleveland, Ohio, with one count of armed bank robbery and one count of using a firearm during the commission of the bank robbery.

The indictment charges that on September 21, 2011, McWhorter, Curry, Moore, and another, did by force, violence, and intimidation, take from the person, presence, and custody of bank tellers the sum of approximately $138,441.10 which was under the care, custody, and possession of Fifth Third Bank, 20000 Detroit Road, Rocky River, Ohio, the deposits of which were then insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

The indictment was presented to the grand jury by Assistant United States Attorney Michelle M. Baeppler after an investigation by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department.

If convicted, the defendants’ sentences will be determined by the court after a review of factors unique to the case, including the defendants’ prior criminal records, if any, the defendants’ roles in the offenses, and the characteristics of the violations. In all cases the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
