Canfield Man Charged with Making Threatening Communications

James Shuba, age 63, of Canfield, Ohio, was indicted on one count of making interstate threatening communications, Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, announced today.
Shuba, on or about June 23, 2011, made a telephone call from Ohio to the District of Columbia and, upon reaching an employee of the United States Congress, stated in part and substance: “Bill Johnson is a goddamned son of a (expletive) and I hate him. I wanna kill him. He wants to end Social Security and Medicare. I hope he dies. He should be dead,” according to the indictment.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Getz following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance of the Capitol Police.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
