Reward Offered in Search for Suspect in Boy’s Brutal Murder
Michael J. Anderson, special agent in charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of an Oak Lawn man charged in connection with a teenage boy’s brutal murder seven years ago on Chicago’s south side.
Luis Macedo has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt, coordinated by Chicago FBI since May 27, 2010, after being charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Macedo is wanted in connection with the May 1, 2009 death of 15-year-old Alex Arellano, who was brutally beaten, shot, and then set on fire by several Latin King street gang members. While Chicago Police identified Macedo as the leader of this attack, he was never arrested. On July 21, 2009, Macedo was charged with one count of first-degree murder in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Macedo has not been seen in the Chicago area since this attack and is believed to have fled the area to avoid prosecution. In addition to his ties to the Chicago area, Macedo is believed to have relatives and associates in Florida. Luis Macedo is described as a Hispanic/male, 28 years old, 5’5” tall, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is also known to have used the following aliases: “Ye-Ye,” Luis Macebo, Luis M. Macedo, Louis Macedo, Louis M. Macedo, Luis M. Maczdo, and Luis M. Mercado. Additionally, Macedo has several unique tattoos on his body, including a tattoo of a crown on the left side of his neck, the words “so many” tattooed on the back of his neck, a five point crown with the number 187 and an upside down pitchfork on his right forearm, “86—05 R.I.P” Cross with wings on the top of his left hand, and the word “Amor” with “Crown” tattooed on top of his right hand. His last known address is in the 6200 block of West 90th Place in Oak Lawn.
The search for Macedo is being coordinated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which is composed of FBI special agents, detectives from the Chicago Police Department, and investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police. Anyone recognizing Macedo or having any information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700 or your nearest law enforcement agency. Macedo should be considered armed and dangerous.
The public is reminded that a complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
